With all due respect, I think dismissing Gramsci is premature. Gramsci as such is obsolete indeed but on the same time more relevant than ever. What changed is that monopoly international capital changed the hegemony from an organic production of the dominant class, into a carefully curated and highly coordinated global discourse management. Chomsky (safe controlled opposition) vs Parenti (genuine activism) exposure chasm or the hilarious if not tragic standardization of “color revolution” operations should be proof enough. In fact not only Gramsci, but Marx itself is obsolete - talking about “market” in the real world context of feudal pharaonic power is basically, sorry, theoretical baggage. I think it’s time for the left to abandon academic dogmatism and follow the masses towards Peter Dale Scott type “conspiracy theorists” and the quite evident by now generalized conspiracy of denial.

The "compatible left" is the modern reincarnation of the "national-socialists." Both were fanatical anti-socialists and accomplices of imperialism, but they cloaked themselves in "leftist" and "socialist" rhetoric.
